Josh: I knew the writing was on the wall
Englishman sad over exit
Josh Todd admits he is gutted his Premiership dream has been stopped in its tracks following his release from St Mirren.
Todd was among a raft of players cut loose by Saints boss Jack Ross following their promotion back to the top flight.
Ho w e v e r, the Englishman was quickly snapped up by Queen of the South on Tuesday night.
He spent the end of the season on loan at Palmerston following an injury-hit campaign which saw him require surgery for a dislocated shoulder.
But despite making just two appearances for the Buddies over the course of the season, Todd concedes he still held out hope of Ross dealing him in for one more season.
He told Express Sport: “It has been the most frustrating season of my career and that’s an understatement to be honest.
“I thought I was well placed to make a push for the first team but then obviously the injury happened.
“It couldn’t have come at a worse time – right before the season starts –because I had been playing well throughout pre-season and thought I had a real chance of playing.
“I got fit but then it happened again. What are you meant to do?
“By the time I had he surgery to correct the shoulder the boys were flying and there was no way I was getting back in to the team.
“You can’t complain about that because at the end of the day the manager shouldn’t change a winning team.
“The gaffer phoned me and asked me to come in and to be honest I knew the writing was on the wall. But he wanted to do it right and face-to-face, and it came as no real surprise when I was released. I have to give him credit for that because he has been nothing but brilliant with me.
“I still thought I had a chance of a new contract. I still felt that the manager might given me one more chance.
“But at the end of the day I haven’t played enough games in the Championship so now it is up to me to prove myself.”
Todd is now set for another season in the Championship having made his loan deal to Queens permanent but he insists that he still has what it takes to become a regular in the top flight.
He added: “I’ve went in to Queens at the end of the season and it was the right move for me at the right time.
“I still need to show that I have what it takes to be a success in the Championship but I believe in myself.
“I reckon that I could make a fist of it in the top flight. I have always had faith in my abilities and I will continue to work hard to make that a reality.
“I loved my time at St Mirren. It never worked out simply due to injuries but I have met a number of great people along the way and I think they have what it takes to make a real go of it in the Premiership.”
