his ankle following a well-worked routine on the pommel horse.

Cham had previously injured his ankle at the British Championships in the run up to the Games and the injury flared up again during his dismount.

He has since also found out that he had torn ligaments between his tibia and fibula.

But the Games would end on a high regardless, with Cham still contributing enough to the overall score with his 10.900 on the pommel horse, and 11.700 on the rings, where he landed badly and was helped off.

Back in Scotland following his Australian adventure, Cham is now back in training as he looks to return to full fitness.

And he revealed that his experience Down Under has given him a taste for the big competitions.

He said: “I’m slowly getting back into training and everything is geared towards being successful every time I compete.

“The Games was an amazing experience and obviously getting the medal was something that I had always dreamed of. The injury obviously put an end to my participation but we were in it as a team and it was great to be a part of that.

“I knew that I was injured in the run up to the Games, the whole team did, but I got so far and there was no way I was giving in. I didn’t want to turn down the chance to go because of something that I could potentially battle through.

“It was everything I have ever worked towards so we all felt it was worth the risk.

“I was in a protective boot before the Games and I slowly built myself back up. I managed to complete the pommel horse and everything felt good but the landing on the rings was just too much.”

But despite only completing two routines, team captain Daniel Purvis singled out Cham for praise following the medal presentation.

And Cham admits it was brilliant to hear his kind words, although they came as no surprise with the team having forged a close bond.

He added: “Dan has been amazing with me and we were all rooting for one another.

“I grew up watching Dan and have followed his career closely so to be part of the same team as him is special for me on a personal level.

“It was nice to hear what he said but it really is a great group of guys. We were helping one another throughout. Hopefully we can continue to work together because the bond among the guys is fantastic.”
