- Craig Ritchie

Paisley Indoor Bowling Club’s first female president has hailed the new era for the club.

Jean Cullen was appointed the popular club’s 47th president at their recent AGM following what has been a blockbuster year.

Paisley Indoor has enjoyed a rise in memberships over the past 12 months, while the British Isles Championships were a major success in recent weeks.

And Jean admits she is extremely proud to have been handed the top job at the Wallneuk Road club.

She told Express Sport: “I’m really pleased to have been voted in as president and am really proud to lead this club.

“I am the first ever female president in that time and I am really looking forward to it.

“I joined the club in 2008 before I retired from work the following year. It has been a big part of my life in that time and I have a lot of great friends who I have met from bowling at the club.

“I’m so excited as to what the year will bring but I know that I will have a lot of help along the way.

“As well as having a president, we have a management committee, as well as a ladies committee and everything goes through everybody else before it gets to me.

“I just have a deciding vote more than anything else but it is an honour to be in this position.

“The club really is on the up and we have had a lot of work done over the past year or so. I’m really looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”
