Duo battered after going to the rescue of drunk on pavement

A Good Samaritan was battered unconsciou­s after going to the aid of a drunk he found lying stricken on the pavement.

The 24-year-old and his pal, aged 25, suffered a shocking attack after they tried to help the thug in Paisley’s George Place.

As they tried to rouse the man in the early hours of Saturday morning he quickly turned violent.

He pushed the 25-year-old then rained down blows on his second victim, leaving him unconsciou­s in the street. He suffered swelling to the side of his face as a result of the unprovoked assault.

The man then made ran off as cops tried to trace him.

Police arrived at around 2.55am and chased after him, but the lout escaped.

Officers are now appealing for informatio­n to help to trace the suspect and have called for witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley Community policing team, said: “Officer were called to reports of an assault in George Place, in Paisley, on Saturday April 12, at 2.55am.

“Two men aged, 24 and 25, had gone to help another man they found lying on the ground.

“As they tried to help him, he became violent.

“After pushing one of the men, he then punched the other to the ground, where he continued to strike him.

“The victim lost consciousn­ess for a short period of time and suffered swelling to his face.

“The matter was reported the police and officers responded immediatel­y, however the suspect made-off on foot and we are very keen to trace him.

“He is described as wearing dark clothing.

“If you have any informatio­n at all on this incident then we would like to hear from you.”
