Crooks cut hole in house window during robbery bid

Police appeal for information after home targeted

- David Campbell

Cat burglars launched an audacious bid to the break into a Paisley home by cutting a hole in the front window.

The Hollywood movie inspired crooks used a glass cutting device to create a perfect circle in the living room window of a house in Stravaig Walk.

Police say high-tech criminals left empty-handed during their attempted raid on the Foxbar property between 1.30am and 10am on Saturday .

It is understood they cut a two-foot hole in the front living room window while the 58- year- old homeowner slept.

Thankfully, they were unable to get inside after the glass partially smashed.

The homeowner alerted police in the morning after he discovered the mess, and officers are now investigating.

Police have appealed for anyone in the area who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to get in touch.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s Community policing team, says her officers are looking into the unusual incident

She said: “We are investigating an attempted break-in in Stravaig Walk during the early hours of Saturday morning.

“The suspects appear to have used a glass cutting tool to cut a circle in a front window of the home.

“This is clearly an unusual incident. This is not something we see regularly.

“I would ask people who may have been in the area at the time to consider whether they saw, or indeed heard, anything suspicious.

“Did you see anyone carrying equipment or wearing a mask?

“If so, we would like to hear from you.

“Thankfully, on this occasion the suspects did not steal any items, but they have clearly caused significant damage to the window.

“We are very keen to trace those involved.”

If you have any information, you should contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
