Thug who shoved girl is told: Behave, or else

Driver raised alarm after spotting rammy in street

- Chris Taylor

16.05.2018 A man was spotted shoving his partner during an early morning street row, then told police: “It’s okay – she’s my girlfriend.”

Lee McGregor, 32, lost his temper during a spat with Nicola Alford and pushed her into a wall.

A driver in a passing car was so alarmed, they called police.

Mc G r e g o r admitted domestically-aggravated assault during an appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Tom Bowman told how attention was drawn to him when the couple started sniping in public.

He said: “Witnesses travelling in a car observed Mr McGregor push the complainer on the shoulder.

“This caused her to come into contact with a wall.

“They appeared to be engaged in an argument.

“Witnesses contacted police because they were concerned with what they had seen.

“Police traced them and she appeared visibly upset.

“He told them, ‘It’s okay, she’s my girlfriend’.”

The pair had been drinking before the incident in Barrhead’s Main Street.

McGregor claimed he stepped on Ms Alford’s toe and she shoved him, before he pushed back at around 3.40am on April 14.

Sentence was deferred for two months for him to be of good behaviour.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew warned McGregor he will be dealt with sternly if there is any repeat.

He said: “It doesn’t make it okay to push somebody, even if it is your girlfriend.

“Society recognises that and this is an aggravated offence due to the abuse of your partner.”

McGregor, of Sunnyside Place, Barrhead, has been ordered to return for sentencing on July 16.
