Plan to build 110 new homes in Neilston

-

Plans to build up to 110 new homes in Neilston have been unveiled.

Dawn Homes plan to create a new development in a 22-acre plot of land next to Kirkton Road.

The housebuilder held a pre-planning application event at Neilston Bowling Club last week and residents were given the chance to see the proposals. Community council chairman John Scott said:“You look at all the building going on in Barrhead just now, there’s just no need for such a big development in Neilston. The infrastructure can’t cope with all this.”

Jewitt and Wilkie Architects are leading the planning process on behalf of Dawn Homes. The architects said:“The vision is to provide a high-quality development, appropriate for its context, which will facilitate a sustainable environment with enhanced biodiversity. This will consist of a legible and robust design, incorporating a permeable access and circulation network.

“Site access is taken from the proposed to be widened Kirkton Road, which offers easy access to the recently completed Glasgow outer ring road, allowing the circumnavigation of Greater Glasgow, and direct access to the national road network thereafter.”

They added that, if it goes ahead, people living at the site would be“benefitting from all the local authority’s facilities in Newton Mearns and Barrhead”.

A planning application is expected to be submitted after 12 weeks.
