Three months’ jail for abusive thug

Neighbours were threatened in drunken rant

- Chris Taylor

A lout who terrorised neighbours after a drunken night out has been caged for three months.

Kevin McGrory, 29, battered doors in his close after a booze session turned nasty.

He bawled in the hallway – until he realised cops were at the bottom of the stairs.

McGrory was locked up for three months after he admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Frank Clarke told how he was spotted going from flat to flat.

He said: “He returned home heavily under the influence of alcohol.

“He was staggering and shouting.

“When he got in, he continued shouting.

“This regressed to the point that he went out into the close and began kicking at doors.

“This was observed by a neighbour, whose door was being kicked, when he looked through the spyhole.

“Police attended and heard him shouting and swearing from the close when they got to the foot of the stairs.

“It only stopped when he reached the bottom and saw them.”

McGrory lost the plot after coming home from a drinking session last July.

He started screaming in the close leaving neighbours terrified in Paisley’s Lammermuir Drive.

Police lifted him and took him to a station, but he was too drunk to be cautioned and charged.

Defence l aw y e r Bob Mitchell revealed his client had been boozing but was taken home by an uncle due to his state.

He said: “Earlier in the year, his cousin, and very close friend, died from an overdose.

“He didn’t react well to that and started to abuse alcohol.

“It ’ s got him into trouble”.

McGrory appeared in the dock in cuffs, having been jailed for a separate offence.

He was sent down for threatening to stab a couple during a bizarre drug- fuelled rant at St a n e l y reservoir.

The pair ran to help him after he was seen blowing bubbles below the water.

He surfaced and began yelling at the pair last May.

Police arrived and found him with a knife stashed with his fishing kit

Sheriff John Hamilton hit him with another prison stretch.

He said: “I will impose a custodial sentence of three months.” .
