Varied agenda at community council

-

Ralston Community Council has heard that 12 crimes were recorded by police since it last met in April.

The majority of these were thefts from cars, which the meeting heard had been chosen at random.

Police at the meeting reminded people to ensure their vehicles are locked.

Community council member Sandra Reynolds said that, in response to residents’ complaints of speeding in Newtyle Road, two police officers spent time observing the area.

This led to drivers reducing their speed and no tickets were issued.

Community council member Ian Rae said he had not noticed a difference in speeding and thought the officers had been positioned at the wrong site.

This was noted and the police will look to observe at separate sites instead of together, the meeting heard.

A resident of Lanfine Road had raised the issue of increased volume due to traffic and was advised that this should be raised with the wardens.

Mrs Reynolds said she will arrange for police to target this area and remind users that the road is for access only.

SNP Councillor Jennifer Adam-McGregor, who represents Paisley Northeast and Ralston, told the meeting fixed penalty notices had been issued in relation to disabled parking places in the area.

She also said that the pond at Barshaw Park had been dredged.

Community council member David Dougan wanted to know if any drainage work had been done since the pond was dredged and noted various areas in the park are waterlogged.

Chairman Allan Thompson said the Friends of Barshaw Park were aware of this problem.

Tory Councillor Neill Graham, who also represents Paisley Northeast and Ralston, said the work to repair potholes on Tylney Road close to its junction with Glasgow Road was now out to contractors.

Community council member Simon Hall said he attended a litterpick event in Barshaw Park organised by Team Up to Clean Up.

There were approximately 15 people there who collected 15 bags of rubbish and one shopping trolley.

A regular litter- pick event has now been set up for the last Saturday of each month from 10am to 11am. Equipment is provided and anyone interested should meet at the café in the park.

Treasurer Alison Scott said the community council had a bank balance of £1511.68.

The next meeting of the community council will be on Thursday, June 7, at 7.30pm in Ralston Community Centre.
