Fresh face in charge at airport

Glasgow Airport has a new boss.

Martin Johnston has been promoted to managing director of the jet hub.

He takes over after the terminal notched- up its busiest year on record, carrying almost 10 million passengers.

Ma r k said: “The connectivi­ty provided by Glasgow Airport plays such an important role in supporting the wider Scottish economy.

“I am relishing the opportunit­y of taking on the role of managing director.

“We are operating in what is a challengin­g marketplac­e.

“However, we are firmly committed to ensuring Glasgow delivers for the city, for Scotland and for the millions of passengers who travel through our doors every year.”

Glasgow Airport serves more than 130 destinatio­ns by 30 airlines, including America, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe and the Gulf.

It is Scotland’s largest charter hub and serves more domestic hubs than any other – making it key to the country’s transport infrastruc­ture.

The terminal supports more than 7,300 jobs and makes the largest contributi­on of any airport to the economy, generating hundreds of millions of pounds.

Derek Provan is chief executive of AGS Airports, which owns the site and Aberdeen Internatio­nal and Southampto­n Airport.

He said: “Mark has held a series of senior positions during what has been an extremely successful 14-year career at Glasgow Airport.

“I am looking forward to working closely with him in his new role to help deliver even further success.”
