Event offers an insight into the wonder of science
Paisley’s uni is hosting an event for school pupils which aims to give them an insight into how scientific research affects and influences people’s daily lives.
The event, Science in the Spotlight @ UWS, is a partnership with the Glasgow Science Festival.
It will see young people carry out experiments with researchers and find out how science makes a difference in the world in forensics, health, sport and much more.
This event will see visitors getting the chance to meet a NASA astronaut; take a scientific look at bubbles, slime and dry ice, design the perfect paper place, hear their blood, pan for gold, discover how strong their muscles are and create their own lung.
Professor Catriona Tedford of the university’s School of Science and Sport is the key coordinator of this event and said:“We are delighted to be participating in the Glasgow Science Festival for the second year running and to be hosting an event at our Paisley Campus.
“This event will give pupils, ranging from P3 to S2, the opportunity to explore the latest in science and sport science at UWS.”
Launched in 2007, Glasgow Science Festival is one of the biggest science festivals in the UK. GSF takes memorable events to non-traditional venues in Glasgow and beyond where it engages with over 48,000 people through the headline festival in June and tens of thousands more through its community projects.
The main aim is to connect people in the west of Scotland with the amazing research happening on their doorstep, from astronomy to zoology.
With events for schools, families and adults, there’s something for all ages and interests. More than 90 per cent of events are free to attend.
