Have your blonde wigs at the ready

- Absolute Jam is back at The Bungalow tonight.

Paying homage to one of the most influential bands of our time — this Jam tribute band is as authentic as you could possibly get. They have all the chemistry and raw power of the original band and no tune will be left unturned. It’s £5 at the door and starts at 8pm.

Tomorrow night, Dirty Harry are back by popular demand – the only tribute band for the true Blondie fan. Dirty Harry not only have the sound, feel, attitude, and full back catalogue of the original band but they have an absolute dead-ringer of Debbie to deliver the good stuff.

The band are quite simply one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. If a recap of some of the top tunes are required, let’s remind ourselves of Heart Of Glass, Call me, Rapture, Sunday Girl, Dreaming, Atomic, Denis, Hanging on the telephone, Maria, One Way or Another and the rest.

Dirty Harry does it all plus plenty more and if you made it to the sellout gig in July 2017 – you’ll know exactly what lies in store. It starts at 8 pm. Tickets are £12 from Skiddle and there are only a few left so don’t miss out.

On Sunday, Bruce Springsteen tribute The Rising take to the Bungalow stage to deliver an electric atmosphere littered with Springsteen classics.

There’s a reason these guys are the UK’s No1 tribute. If you love The Boss, this show is a must.

Tickets are only £6 and things kick off at 2pm. There are a couple of great gigs this week at The Arts Centre. On Sunday from 7.30pm Kirsty Law will be launching her brand new visual album. When writing Young Night Thought, Kirsty worked extensively alongside filmmaker Daniel Warren and painter Kirsty Whiten.

The result? A dynamic new album accompanied by a short film and triptych of oil paintings — all exploring the theme of the ‘inner child’ through the lens of Scots folklore. It’s £10/£8 + booking fee and it suitable for ages 14+.

Also at the Art’s centre next week is Dàimh on Wednesday.

The band continue to take the world by storm with their highly successful yet uncompromising take on Gaelic and Highland music.

The most recent accolade to add to the ever-growing list saw Ellen MacDonald awarded Gaelic Singer of the Year at the end of 2016 before the band jetted off to set audiences alight during their sellout tour of the Western US.

Past awards include “Folk Band of the Year” at the 2015 Scottish Traditional Music Awards and last year’s award for the “Best Folk Band in Europe” at the prestigious Folkherbst competition in Germany. Tickets cost £14 plus booking fee with the event starting at 7.30pm.

For both gigs you can get tickets from the box office. The Anchor has Alan Parker in on Sunday and he will be performing from 4pm.

Jen McLauchlan is host at the Monday Club from 4pm. On Sunday at The Tea Gardens the P90s will be playing from 6pm.

The Old Swan have FreeSpeech in tonight at 8pm and tomorrow from 4pm it is Wildcard. Monday The Spuds start at 3pm and on Wednesday Alex Wayt will be singing a whole bunch of great tunes from 6pm.

The Cave have another cracking four in a row for you this weekend starting with The Bronx Band tonight at 9pm. Tomorrow in the early slot at 6pm it is the fabulous three-piece that is Loanhead then later at 9pm Springheeled Jack will be taking you into the late hours.

Overdrive finishes the weekend off at 6pm on Sunday.

Open Mic Nights next week are: Sunday at The Bungalow with Cat Caldwell from 8pm. Monday 8pm at The Abbey Bar hosted by Dunky Hunter and Andy Lindsey is at The Anchor on Tuesday from 8pm. On Wednesday Johnny Barr is the host for Burger and Keg 8pm. Also on Wednesday Andy Lindsay is at The Patter Bar from 8pm.

Cosmopolitan’s open mic is on once again, also at 8pm.
