Parks’ improvements is child’s play

-

Major upgrade work at two green spaces has been completed in Barrhead and Neilston.

Cowan Park, in Barrhead, and Kingston Playing Fields, in Neilston, had £350,000 pumped into them in a bid to improve their facilities.

At Cowan Park a brand new play area has been installed opposite the swings currently in place.

It is now open and East Renfrewshire Council says it provides children with a wide range of play equipment, including six-metre-high slides, a double zip wire, a roundabout, and a sensory area.

The work has also included installing a new fence around the war memorial and adding picnic benches to the area.

The recent revamp of the existing play park at Kingston Playing Fields included installing a large climbing frame with a slide as well as new swings, an accessible roundabout and toddlers’play equipment.

A new fence has also been put in place to replace the existing structure

Councillor Alan Lafferty, Convener for Environment, said:“I am delighted to see these works completed at both Cowan Park and Kingston Playing Fields.

“As well as upgrading the existing play park at Kingston for the Neilston community, the work at Cowan Park has created a quite fantastic play area which will benefit local people for years to come.

“We have already seen the impact that the improved play area at Rouken Glen has had, and I’m sure that by putting similar equipment into these parks it will provide a boost for these two fantastic green spaces too.”
