Medals galore for Habbies Success on track and field

Kilbarchan Athletic Club enjoyed a good entry for the West District Track and Field Championsh­ips in Kilmarnock and there were also some quality performanc­es.

In the men’s events gold medal winners included Martin Lipton in the 400m in a time of 48.44 and the 400m hurdles in 52.39.

Elsewhere, Andrew Murphy won the Pole Vault with an effort of 4.20m and the javelin thanks to a throw of 45.63m. Murphy also finished second in the shot putt and third in the 200m.

Connor McLean won the 1500m in a time of 4.01.12. And Michael Cairns won the Under-20s 400m hurdles following a run of 58.17. Meanwhile, Andrew Costello won the Under-20s hammer (55.82m).

The success kept on coming as Krishawn Aiken won the 200m with a run of 22.44s, remarkably leading a one ,two, three for the Kilbarchan club, with Anthony Young second and Murphy third .

In the ladies events, Erin Campbell won the 100m hurdles in 15.31, Shona Ross won the triple jump with a leap of 11.58m and Heather Fawcett won the Under-20s hammer following a throw of 43.53m.

In the younger age categories, McKenzie Cunningham won the Girls Under-17s 100m following a run of 12.95s and Jack Patton won the Under-17s 1500m in a time of 4.26.10.

There were silver medals won by Praise Olatoke, Ola Zurakowska, Rachel Muir, Louise Hastie, David McNair, Oliver Patton, Cameron Stark and there was bronze for Sarah Dyer.
