“It’s clear there’s a very serious underlying problem.
“He’s gone from being somebody with an excellent work history to a tragic decline caused by alcohol misuse.
“He had a heart attack which had a profound effect on him.
“He responded by developing a problem with alcohol.
“As this progressed, financial problems took hold.
“He’s serious about recovery and making amends to his family for what he has put them through.”
Reilly began shouting and swearing at Carol when the row turned nasty in Renfrew’s Paisley Road.
He tussled violently with police after they were called to investigate a disturbance on May 1.
Reilly pled guilty to acting in a threatening or abusive manner, aggravated by the abuse of his spouse.
The court heard he had referred himself for help tackling his drink
Advertising Feature problem after the ordeal.
He was placed under supervision and told to complete 140 hours of unpaid work in nine months.
Sheriff Colin Pettigrew also told him to attend court-ordered alcohol counselling.
He said: “It’s to your credit that you accept responsibility. “I wouldn’t expect anything else. “There’s only one real problem and it is one you need to conquer.
“Quite frankly, I need to be convinced you can turn this around.”
Reilly has been ordered to return for a review on July 2.
