One of the men is described as being white, in his 30s, of stocky build, with short blonde hair and wearing a red top.
A second male, also white, is aged around 20, of slim build and was wearing a blue top. There is no description available for the third thug.
Po l i c e a re now appealing for witnesses to come forward as they carry out extensive enquiries into the incident.
Detective Inspector Scott McCallum, from Paisley CID, said: “This was a an attack in broad daylight in a busy residential street.
“Three males approached the victim while he was cycling in Kirklandneuk Road and struck him over the head with a weapon before punching and kicking him as he lay on the ground.
“We are working to establish a motive for the attack at this stage and carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.
“Members of the public should not have had to witnesses such a horrendous attack and we would appeal to anyone who has any information on this incident to come forward.
“Did you witness the incident? Did you see the three males getting into a white or sliver car near to the scene? If so we would like to hear from you.”
