- Kenneth Speirs

A bumper weekend of sun and fun was enjoyed at Kilbarchan Smile’s Gateway Garden Party.

Part of Lilifest, the run-up to the historic Lilias Day, it also included a mini Music and Beer Festival that took place in the historic village.

The garden party was opened by this year’s Miss Lilias, Beth Caldow, accompanied by pipe music from local piper Archie Sandground, and welcomed by the Kilbarchan Smile team and other guests.

Hundreds of people attended the event, and they enjoyed lots activities and food and drink on offer over the weekend including gardening, Kilbarchan Guide’s food and drink stall, homebaking, performances from local musicians and storytelling fun with Kilbarchan’s very own Anne Pitcher at the Gateway Garden Party.

The village’s two pubs also hosted live music with performances from rockabilly band – Cherry Red53, Alan McKim and Alan Finn.

The mini Music and Beer Festival saw a range of craft and guest beers, bouncy castle and hog roast laid on by Kilbarchan-based The Rollin Pig.

Festival organiser Damon Scott said: “The weekend went really well and there really was something for everyone. The weather was great too so it was good to have plenty of things happening outdoors.

“We are looking forward the rest of our events with Helen Calcluth’s Kilbarchan and the Handloom Weavers book launch and Ceilidhs for Tots and Juniors presented by Highland Hustle on Tuesday, May 29.

“Our sold out Big Vern ‘n’ the Shootah’s gig is at Kilbarchan Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, May 31, and Thunder Road is at The Trust Inn on Friday June 1.

“The focus this Saturday will be Lilias Day itself with the parade starting at the bottom of the village at 1pm and finishing at Kilbarchan Park where there is even more to do than ever before with a record number of stalls, a food and drink village and a packed programme of events and entertainment taking place throughout the day.

Outside the park Lilifesters can enjoy the family day at Habbies and the return of Barchan Mad Comedy to Kilbarchan Performing Arts Centre in the evening.”

Lilifest continues with a Pop Up Vegan Café that will set up in Habbies Bar and Restaurant for the evening on Tuesday, June 5.

The Brass Monkeys bringing the festival to a close on Saturday, June 9, with classic tunes with a big band brass twist at Habbies Hoolie.
