University looks at how to grow Africa’s economy
Paisley’s university is to host its third annual Centre for African Research on Enterprise and Economic Development conference, starting today.
The two-day conference at the University of the West of Scotland will examine key issues within the broad areas of enterprise and economic development on the African continent, with this year’s conference theme being transforming barriers to effective economic development in Africa into enablers.
This year’s conference will see 25 papers being presented across four broad themes relating to African economic development.
The t h i rd annu a l conference will also feature two major workshops – ‘improving the value chain for African entrepreneurs’ and ‘the role of the diaspora in Africa’s economic development’.
The university’s Centre for African Research on Enterprise and Economic Development, which the uni says is the first of its kind in the UK with such a clear focus on African enterprise and economic development, was launched in 2015.
The centre studies the many structural changes which African economies have experienced in recent years.
Professor John Struthers, of University of West of Scotland’s School of Business and Enterprise, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the third annual conference at our Paisley Campus.
“This event puts an important spotlight on issues related to enterprise and the economic development of Africa.”
