Buddies are ready for another stint at camp

Saints are anticipating a great turnout this summer

- Craig Ritchie

Summer is well and truly here as St Mirren in the Community get set to take bookings for this year’s football camps.

The camps have become a firm favourite with young football-loving Buddies across Renfrewshire and coaches are expecting a host of footy-daft kids to dig out their boots for this year’s sessions.

The camps will be run over the school summer holidays at the club’s Airdome and Lochbarr Services, Lochwinnoch.

Coaches will put the players through their paces, teaching them the basics as well as the flicks and strikes of their favourite Saints players.

All the action will kick- off on Monday, July 9, with camps running from the Monday to Friday, for the duration of the school break.

Children aged three to 12 will be put through their paces by experienced and qualified community and academy coaches.

Daily themes will cover all skills and attributes of the modern-day footballer (dribbling, passing and control, heading, finishing and flicks and tricks), all within a safe and fun learning environment.

St Mirren community coach Ross Paterson said of last year’s success: “It was great to see so many kids turning out for the soccer camps and they all had a blast.

“Sometimes mums and dads have to work when their kids are off school and many of the children prefer to be having fun at our camps, rather than sitting at home.

“It gives them something positive to do and also makes sure they are getting some exercise.

“We get a lot of familiar faces, which is great, and some new ones too.”

Participants at the football camps are required to bring suitable indoor clothing and footwear – no metal studs or blades – shin guards and goalkeeper gloves, if appropriate, in addition to a light healthy snack and plenty of water/ non- fizzy drinks.

Bookings can be made by downloading the form from the St Mirren website, completing it in full and returning it to football development officer Ross at the address provided.
