Having been with the police for 30 years, she spent much of her career in the southside of Glasgow before taking over from CI Campbell Crawford in 2014.
Chief Superintendent McInulty said: “I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the significant contributions that have been made in East Renfrewshire by Chief Inspector Angela Carty.
“She has been an extremely committed officer who has worked tirelessly to keep people safe throughout her service.
“I would like to thank Angela for all the support she has provided to me and wish her a very long and happy retirement.”
CI Carty started with the police force in Govan before going on to Pollock, Cathcart, the Gorbals and Ayrshire.
During her time in the role she has helped tackle concerns highlighted by residents, including housebreakings, antisocial behaviour, speeding, violent crime, drug dealing and child abuse.
She was also responsible for reporting statistics to East Renfrewshire Council’s cabinet four times a year.
On its Twitter account, the council said: “Thank you to Angela for her incredible cont ribution to East Renfrewshire.
