Kids will pay the price for sick park vandalism
Play area needs £1k repairs after yobs damage surface
A councillor has slammed mindless vandals who caused £ 1,000 worth of damage at a kids play park.
Yobs ripped up a patch of a safety surface at the playground.
Frustrated councillor Stephen Burns has hit out after seeing the state of the Lyon Road play area in Foxbar.
A large section of soft flooring was pulled up during the incident, which cops believe happened over the weekend.
Councillor Burns, who re p resents the Pa i s l e y Southwest ward, said: “It is very disappointing to see the play park targeted by vandals in this way.
“A section of the soft flooring has been pulled up deliberately.
“The cost of the repairs will end up being around £1,000.
“The local housing associations and the council have spent money in recent times upgrading the area and for something like this to happen brings down the whole community.
“Children will obviously miss out while repairs are being carried out at the park which is not good as we approach the summer months.”
He urged anyone with information about the wrecked park to come forward to police.
“Obviously someone knows who did this. If you know who was responsible then I would ask that you contact the police immediately.
“It is very frustrating that something like this can happen in our community. It is vital we stamp it out and catch whoever did this,” he added.
Police Scotland also appealed for information to trace whoever is behind the senseless damage.
A spokeswoman said: “We are investigating a vandalism incident at a play area near to Lyon Road which we believe took place over the weekend.
“An area of soft safety flooring was pulled up and damaged.
“If you have any information, or witnessed this incident then I would urge you to get in touch with the police.”
If you have any information, you should contact Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
