Spotlight turns on dementia
Scotland’s Dement i a Awareness Week starts on Monday and lots of events are happening right here in Renfrewshire.
Alzheimer Scotland is calling on the nation to help make sure nobody faces dementia alone.
Dementia affects almost every family in Scotland and the country’s biggest public health issue.
This year, Alzheimer Scotland wants everyone to find out more about dementia, especially the small but vital things they can all do to help people live well with the condition.
The special week, which runs until Sunday, has been weclomed by Henry Simmons, chief executive of Alzheimer Scotland.
He said: “Dementia is Scotland’s biggest public health issue.
“We want people to join with us this Dementia Awareness Week and be part of a collective voice calling for the best possible information, support, care and recognition for everyone living with dementia. Together, we can make a real difference.”
Alzheimer Scotland Renfrewshire’s Dementia Awareness Week events include:
Mo n d a y , Ju n e 4, Dementia Friends information sessions, 10am until 11.30am – Paisley Arts Centre and 2pm to 3.30pm in Johnstone Town Hall.
You can lear nfive key things about dementia andthe small things we can all to help make life easier for people living with dementia.
Tuesday, June 5, information and fundraising event at the main atrium of intu Braehead shopping centre, from 10am to 4.30pm.
You can go along and meet the Alzheimer Scotland Renfrewshire Services team to find out more about services, groups and activities in the local area.
The local Si n g i n g Memories group, children from Nursery Times in Paisley and Stephen Murphy will all perform during the day. The choir will sing at 11am and 2pm for an hour.
Wednesday, June 6, open afternoon from 3pm to 5pm at the Memory Lane Club, 32 Ricccartsbar Avenue, Paisley
You can find out about all the local services on offer to support people living with dementia and their families.
There is also a chance to look around the day centre.
