English and Tahir ready to learn their fate

Paisley duo hoping for Scots call

- Craig Ritchie

Ferguslie’s Michael English and Hamza Tahir face an anxious wait to see if they will make the cut for the Scotland squad.

The national side are gearing up for a star-studded clash with England in Edinburgh later this month, with a host of big-hitters set to make the trip to the Grange.

The current number one ODI side in the world will travel up to Scotland for the first time since May 2014, when they took on the Scots in Aberdeen.

Eoin Morgan is set to captain the side, despite a finger injury. It will be a great opportunity for Scottish cricket fans to witness some of the world’s best players, such as Test captain Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali on Scottish soil.

Scotland are set to name their squad early this week as they look to cause a massive upset against what is currently the best side in the world.

The Paisley duo were named in the provisional 24-man squad for the eagerly-anticipated ODI clashes with England and Pakistan.

English and Tahir, both regulars for the Paisley side as well as Scotland A and the Western Warriors, were among the stars that have been confirmed for the upcoming match-ups against their illustrious opponents.

The squad will now be trimmed to 14 ahead of the fixtures, with English and Tahir hoping to have impressed head coach Grant Bradburn in recent weeks.

The June international programme is an exciting opportunity for the Scottish team to play in front of a home crowd and continue the progress made over the past 12 months, most recently at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe where they narrowly missed out on a spot at next year’s World Cup.

The match against England is now a complete sellout. However, tickets for the two Pakistan fixtures are still available.
