A blade thug who stabbed a doting dad-of-three to death in a random street attack was on the run from cops at the time of the senseless murder.
Yesterday repeat offender James Wright was jailed for life, with a minimum of 20 years behind bars, for killing Craig McClelland in the Foxbar area of Paisley last summer.
Sentencing the 25-year-old thug, judge Lord Matthews said he had “no answers” to the question why Wright had not been recaptured after breaching a curfew put in place following a previous conviction.
Lord Matthews told Wright: “I note that you have a number of previous convictions including two for carrying a sharp implement in public.
“You were released early and placed on a Home Detention Curfew, involving the use of an electronic tag.
“You breached that curfew and it was revoked 11 days later but you remained unlawfully at large for nearly six months, during which time you committed this awful offence.
“I have no doubt that questions will be asked about that but I am afraid I have no answers.”
He added: “I know that whatever sentence you are ordered to serve will be wholly inadequate compared to the grief you have caused.”
Craig, 31, had just left his partner and their three young boys at home to go play Xbox games with his brother when he was murdered.
