Bully faces contact ban after terrorising his ex Accused admits assault on woman and threat to neighbours

- Chris Taylor

A bully who terrorised his girlfriend could be banned from contacting her after he attacked her at home.

Scott Graham, 24, smacked Beth Leitch with a door and shoved her onto a bed after sparking a drunken row.

The dad then turned on her neighbours after they ran to help when they heard the scuffle.

Graham admitted assaulting the woman and acting in a threatening manner at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Frank Clarke told how she was left with a head injury after the thug turned violent.

He said: “He returned home worse for wear. He had been drinking. An argument ensued.

“The young lady moved away from him. He kicked the door and the door banged on its hinges and came back and struck her on the head. She moved towards the bedroom – he followed her.

“He pushed her, causing her to fall back and on to the bed.

“Neighbours heard the disturbance and it caused them concern. They came to the door. He reacted by shouting and swearing at them.”

Graham was arrested after the alarm was raised when he turned on two women who heard the spat. He was warned to keep away from Ms Leitch after attacking her at his flat in Renfrew’s Viewpark Gardens on Hogmanay.

But he tracked her down to her new home and began bawling to get in just months later.

Mr Clarke told how the victim heard him yelling in the street before letting him inside in case he woke those living next door. He added: “It was silly of her. “He entered and was shouting directly at her.

“He was apportioning blame on her for him not being able to see two children from another relationship.

“He then, for no reason, kicked over a television.

“She left and went into the close to find a place of safety to call 999.

“The call handler speaks to her being tearful and crying.

“Police arrived and found the home in disarray. “She is terrified of him. “She’s looking for no contact for as long as possible.”

Ms Leith begged the court to ban Graham from coming anywhere near her after the spat in Paisley’s Neilston Road last month.

Defence lawyer David Nicholson insisted his client would keep away.

He said: “He’s no intention of contacting this young lady again.

“He had been in full- time employment and his job remains open to him.

“He’s a dad to two young children, aged six and five.”

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew revealed he could put a non-harassment order in place forbidding Graham to approach Ms Leitch.

He said: “The court has to consider all options because of your behaviour.

“There’s two separate incidents, but put them together and there is a course of conduct.

“They may have been fuelled by alcohol, but that is no excuse.”

Graham, of Caledonia Street, has been ordered to return to court on June 29.
