Hammer thug took 100 Valium

Pill-popper admitted causing rammy in pub

- Chris Taylor

A thug rowed with his girlfriend then turned up at a pub clutching a hammer after downing 100 pills.

David Morrison, 27, knocked back Valium before kicking-off at Amie Foderingham, 22.

He ran off before following her to a pub – then charging in with the tool.

Morrison admitted acting in a threatening manner and possessing the weapon at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor John Penman told how he was caught on CCTV kicking-off at the Clippens Inn.

He said: “He entered and spoke to somebody at the bar then had an argument with another man who approached.

“The accused was aggressive and his arms were flailing and he was pushing patrons out the road. “He was escorted from the pub. “He returned around 20 minutes later in possession of a hammer.

“He was seen running towards the entrance to the pub.”

Morrison was lifted after police arrived and saw him stagger around with the hammer outside the Linwood bar.

He turned up at the boozer after he was turfed out Ms Foderingham’s home in nearby Morven Drive. She told him to leave after he started bawling at her after bursting through the door high around 7pm on February 24.

The court heard he was shown the door after ranting and appearing “agitated”.

Defence lawyer James Arrol admitted his client had “deep-rooted issues” and had necked dozens of tablets before losing the plot.

He said: “He doesn’t remember very much of the night. He had taken around about 100 Valium. “This was a significant amount. “He accepts he had a problem with Valium.”

The court heard Ms Foderingham wanted to continue her relationship with the brute.

Morrison had previously been rapped for a weapons charge.

He was warned he could face being locked up for the latest rammy.

Sheriff David Pender deferred sentencing for background reports.

He said: “These offences are serious.

“This is all the more so because you were placed on a community payback order for possession of a baseball bat.”

Morrison, of Roaden Road, Paisley, has been ordered to return to court on July 2.
