Respite breaks for carers

Sheriff Ireland said: “Both of you pleaded guilty to assault and robbery on the streets of Paisley and there was some mitigation to the offence because of the alleged behaviour of the complainer.

“This is no excuse for your quite thuggish behaviour.

“There is concern in the public over incidents like this happening in the streets of Paisley often involving people who have been enjoying themselves socially.

“In my view this matter can only be dealt with by the imposition of a custodial sentence.”

He handed Cadle 25 months behind bars and placed him on supervised release for one year after completion of the sentence.

He gave Murphy 22 months in jail and ordered he be placed on supervised release for 11 months after his sentence expires. Renfrewshi­re Carers Centre will be providing short breaks to a zoo and safari park this summer thanks to Shared Care Scotland’s Better Breaks Fund.

The trips will offer respite to parents while their children are being looked after by a paid worker or volunteer in a stimulatin­g and fun environmen­t.

The trip to Five Sisters Zoo near Livingston will take place on July 3 and the trip to the safari park will be on August 8.

The charity is also assisting families where carers are working or stressed over the holiday season by providing respite with staff taking the child or young person out and about in the community.

Respite of up to 40 hours for 15 families is available.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
