Tia makes sure dancing runs in the family
Teen is a fourth generation star
08.06.2018 A fourth generation Paisley dancer is getting set to take the stage in a new major show.
Talented Tia Corrigan, 15, will star in the Dance School of Scotland performances at the Theatre Royal and mum Lyndsay is as proud as punch.
She comes from a long line of movers and shakers and it is no surprise that she will step into the spotlight later this month.
Her great grandparents were stage stars Elena Rose and Tommy MacIntosh, and grandmother Christine Aitken has run a dance school for 56 years.
Mum Lyndsay, who was also a keen dancer growing up, says the teenager has always wanted to join the family business and is looking forward to curtain up at the Theatre Royal.
She said: “Since she was about two she has been dancing. She has always wanted to dance and she is incredibly talented.
“We have always had dance in the family. She is carrying on a long line in the family. She is far better than I ever was.
“She focuses on ballet, modern and contemporary dance, so she will be showing them all off in the shows.
“This year the theme is space and she will be taking part in a number of routines.”
The former Brediland Primary school pupil has her heart set on the big time and is already planning a career in the performing arts.
Lyndsay, dad David and big brother Cameron,17, may soon be waving her off as she plans to continue her studies in London.
“She is really bubbly and energetic. She lives in her own wee happy world.
“She has already decided that she want to continue dancing and is looking at schools in London.”
Tia lives in the grounds of the Dance School of Scotland at Knightswood Secondary.
It is the only fully-funded dance school in the country and Tia will star in its annual summer show on next Friday and Saturday.
There will be four performances at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow and tickets can be bought at www. atgtickets.com
Tia said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in the show. Dancing has always been what I have wanted to do. I want to be a professional dancer and keep doing what I love.”
