Joy as Scott heads off to Switzerland
A Paisley student is “overjoyed”after securing an internship with the world’s largest scientific research centre in Geneva, Switzerland.
Scott Hurley, 21, applied to CERN - the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and couldn’t believe his luck when he was offered a placement.
The former Castlehead High School pupil is currently studying Computer Science at Strathclyde University and needed to complete a summer internship to progress.
After searching for months and being unsuccessful, on the off chance Scott applied to CERN’s openlab internship programme.
Shortly after that, Scott received an email explaining he was successful and starts his internship on July 2 for five weeks.
Scott said:“The internship will allow me to collaborate with students from all over the globe, and learn from some of the foremost experts in science.
“I am overjoyed and deeply thankful to be able to experience this.”
“I have heard from previous interns that after getting past the initial screening process, the success of one’s application is very dependent on whether one possesses the particular skills researchers are looking for to help with their project. I’m guessing that’s why I was picked.”
The openlab is a collaboration between CERN and industrial partners to develop new knowledge in Information and Communication Technologies through the evaluation of advanced solutions and joint research.
During his time at the world’s most respected science centres, Scott will be attending lectures related to computer science, as well as carrying out practical work .
