C0OPERATE OR FACE JAIL, THUG WARNED AFTER BEING CAUGHT WITH BLADE Lout ‘forgot’ he had a knife ... until he dropped it
A thug caught with a blade claimed he wrestled it away from an attacker and “forgot” he had it.
Robert Wright, 24, was nabbed with the knife outside a Tesco petrol station.
He insists he did not remember to tell cops because he was injured during a supposed attack.
Appearing at Paisley Sheriff Court , the yob admitted possessing the weapon.
Defence lawyer Gordon Ritchie claimed his client had been too agitated to remember to tell cops where he got the blade.
He said: “He was the victim of an attack and disarmed his assailant.
“Due to his injuries and excited state, he forgot it was on his person.
“This was not the case where police spotted somebody brandishing a knife.
“It was a knife that has fallen from his clothing in the forecourt of a filling station.
“He was at great pains to show me a number of injuries he had.
“They appeared to be caused by a knife.
“He had stitches to close a wound and had some bandaging.
“It appears to offer some support to his explanation of how he came to be in possession of the knife.”
Wright was caught was the blade in Paisley’s Renfrew Road on March 17.
He also admitted sparking a row at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
The yob was arrested the night before after claiming he had a contagious disease and threatened to spit in the faces of horrified onlookers.
He pleaded guilty to acting in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing in the centre, in Corsebar Road.
Sheriff Frances McCartney warned he could be locked up.
She said: “I have not discounted a custodial sentence. “But I am prepared to give you the opportunity to meet with social workers again. If they say they cannot work with you, then I will have to consider custody.”
Wright, of Abercorn Street, Paisley, has been ordered to return for sentencing on June 29.
