Kibble team join march honouring Suffragettes
Young people and staff from Kibble stepped up to take part in a march marking 100 years since women were first given the vote,
Women and girls from the Paisley charity were among the thousands of marchers who filled the Edinburgh streets with green, white and violet – the Suffragette colours – on Sunday to celebrate the historic moment.
The parade through the capital was part of a UK-wide event organised by Processions, an art programme connecting people with the First World War.
The motivated marchers carried homemade placards as they made their way from The Meadows to Holyrood Park.
Staff and young people at Kibble worked hard over the past few weeks to produce a banner to display on the day.
Jennifer Sloan from Kibble’s Art Department said:“I want to thank everyone who has been participating in helping to make the banner. This project is an important reminder of the fight that women had just to get the right to vote and I know that some of the young people have been learning about the Suffragettes for the very first time.
“It is important to never forget how these women fought so hard to build a fairer and more equal society.”
Also representing Paisley in the march were women and girls from various Renfrewshire groups, including the All the Feegie Wummin group, the Star Project and Active Communities.
Well done to all the ladies who put their best forward to mark the historic anniversary.
