Ban on footpath parking
Drivers should be hammered for ditching cars on pavements, Councillor Kenny MacLaren insists.
The Nat has backed plans to penalise motorists causing problems on public paths.
The Paisley Northwest member hailed Holyrood proposals to tighten rules.
Kenny said: “The new legislation once enacted will tighten up the laws around pavement parking making it easier to tackle the problem, passing powers to community wardens to issue fines.
“Too many drivers park irresponsibly, causing problems for those who have mobility issues and then have to face walking on the road to get past the vehicle blocking the pavement.
“The Bill still has to go through the full parliamentary process, but I know many residents and communities within Paisley will welcome the powers to finally tackle irresponsible and antisocial drivers.”
A previous SNP attempt to shake-up laws ran out of time in 2016.
The Bill would also deal with the creation of lowemission zones and allow councils to run bus services.
Councillor MacLaren says too many streets in Paisley are packed with cars.
He added: “These vehicles make it difficult for those with mobility problems or even parents with prams.”
