Younger players are key to the future

-

St Mirren chairman Gordon Scott insists new gaffer Alan Stubbs is keen to continue the good work done by the club’s youth academy.

Scott revealed that developing players at Saints’ Ralston base was a key requirement for whoever took the reins at the Paisley side.

Recent seasons have seen the likes of Lewis Morgan, Stevie Mallan and Kyle McAllister all come through the ranks before being sold on by the side.

Kyle Magennis is the latest name to be linked with a move having shone in the club’s first team – although Scott says there have been no offers for the youngster.

He said:“We made it clear we want to keep developing players. The players we’ve brought through have helped fund a lot of the success we’re having just now and that will continue.

“Kyle Magennis is probably the key man just now and we don’t want to lose an exceptional player like him for a long time.”
