Children joined Alzheimer group for Dementia Awareness Week
Braehead was alive with the sound of music as the young and young at heart performed as part of Dementia Awareness Week Scotland.
Alzheimer Scotland’s Singing Memories group performed in the central atrium of the shopping mall and invited along youngsters from Nursery Times in Paisley to join them.
Singing Memories meet every Tuesday at Wallneuk Parish Church in Paisley from 6.30pm till 8pm, led by Lorna MacKinnon.
Wendy Craig from Alzheimer Scotland’s Renfrewshire centre said: “It went really well.
“We had a great turnout and people were stopping and

“Our information stand was really well attended as well.
“The choir really enjoyed themselves, most of them stayed to sing at both performances in the morning and the afternoon.
“Music touches everyone from little to old.
“It was lovely to see the kids performing as well.
“They’ve got no worries. They just get on with it.”
A collection raised more than £730 which will go to Alzheimer Scotland services.
Youngsters from Nursery Times sang some old songs and traditional nursery rhymes like You Canny Shove Yer Granny Aff a Bus, Three Craws and You Are My Sunshine.
Manager Helen Greenhorn said: “A few of the children’s grandparents have got dementia so it’s something which is close to our hearts. We took along all 31 children from the three-to-five room.
“All the children wore purple as well because that’s the Alzheimer Scotland colour.
“A lot of parents turned up to support us which was great and lots of people joined in.
“The children love performing and were posing for photos.
“It was a great event for them and we’re happy to support Alzheimer Scotland.”
Stephen Murphy from local band Velvet Noir also performed at the Braehead event.
Singing Memories is a drop-in session and people with dementia and their carers are welcome to go along.
