Kilbarchan athletes battle it out for Scotland selection

- Athletics

A number of Kilbarchan athletes will be vying for a spot in the Scotland side after the governing body confirmed they will compete at the Welsh Under-20 international.

scottishathletics will send a youth side to the event in Swansea next month as they look to build upon the success of last month’s Loughborough International.

The event is on Sunday, July 25, and Scotland have a selection date of July 9 with athletes informed thereafter.

It is one per event for both male and female and there are a number of events covered in the match – with the opposition featuring Welsh Under-20 and three England Athletics Under-20 regional teams and a Welsh Schools’ team.

Iceland, Guernsey and Jersey are to be confirmed to add further competition to the fields. As well as the Loughborough International and the Manchester International as senior opportunities, there are other events coming up, including Scotland hosting the Celtic Games at Under-18 and Under-16 level.

Moira Maguire, convenor of the Track and Field Commission, said: ‘The Loughborough International and August Ma n c h e s t e r International are important fixtures on the International calendar and offer the opportunity for senior athletes to wear a Scottish vest, while the Celtic International for Under-18 and Under-16 athletes will be hosted by scottishathletics at Grangemouth.”
