At first glance you might think that World Cup Group B stands for Buddies.

Spain, Morocco and Portugal are pretty cosy neighbours, while distant cousin Iran has strengthened its family ties thanks to coach Carlos Quiroz.

The current Iran coach has an illustrious CV that includes managerial jobs with Portugal and Real Madrid.

His team are currently leading Group B and they are determined to keep it that way when Iran come up against Spain (7pm on ITV)

They’ll be taking on La Roja in Kazan on Wednesday, and Quiroz’s team are hoping they can build on their 1-0 win over Morocco.

Meanwhile, Portugal boss Fernando Santos is“never satisfied”, says Adrien Silva, who insisted the European champions will not underestimate Morocco and tonight we find out whether the Portugal team have what it takes to beat the Lions of the Atlas (1pm on BBC).

Also worth watching today is the Group A challenge that sees Uruguay take on Saudi Arabia (4pm on BBC).

Saudi Arabia are the great underdogs of the tournament – none of the 23 players were playing abroad until January, when a series of loans with Spanish clubs were hurriedly arranged to boost their experience level.

They are the lowest-ranked team in Russia yet their coach, Juan Antonio Pizzi, might be the one to take the team to dizzying new heights.

But he’ll meet his match against Uraguay#s Óscar Tabárez – who at 71 has a career span that far outweighs most managers in the world cup.

Group A may be the considered the weakest of the eight groups – but it’s still sure to still provide excitement.
