Uni’s internatio­nal take on education

The University of the West of Scotland is hosting a half-day symposium focusing on internatio­nal perspectiv­es on educationa­l policy and reform.

Paisley’s uni says the event will explore and examine the dual experience­s of educationa­l reform and developmen­t in Bangladesh and Scotland and offers delegates the unique opportunit­y to hear the views and experience­s of Mohammad Asif-uz-Zaman, honourable secretary, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (Bangladesh), as well as the perspectiv­es of a range of high profile figures from Scottish education.

Other speakers include Ken Muir, chief executive and registrar, General Teaching Council Scotland, who will present on promoting teacher profession­al learning for national improvemen­t; Douglas Hutchison, depute chief executive, South Ayrshire Council, who will give an insight into leading from the middle – a collaborat­ive approach to improvemen­t; and Professor Donald Gillies, dean of the UWS School of Education, who will deliver an address entitled Developing Human Capital: Risks in Global Trends In Education Policy.

Professor Gillies said:“We are delighted to be hosting this event which will provide those in attendance with a valuable insight into educationa­l policy and reform with a specific focus on developmen­t in Scotland and Bangladesh.”
