Uni’s international take on education
The University of the West of Scotland is hosting a half-day symposium focusing on international perspectives on educational policy and reform.
Paisley’s uni says the event will explore and examine the dual experiences of educational reform and development in Bangladesh and Scotland and offers delegates the unique opportunity to hear the views and experiences of Mohammad Asif-uz-Zaman, honourable secretary, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (Bangladesh), as well as the perspectives of a range of high profile figures from Scottish education.
Other speakers include Ken Muir, chief executive and registrar, General Teaching Council Scotland, who will present on promoting teacher professional learning for national improvement; Douglas Hutchison, depute chief executive, South Ayrshire Council, who will give an insight into leading from the middle – a collaborative approach to improvement; and Professor Donald Gillies, dean of the UWS School of Education, who will deliver an address entitled Developing Human Capital: Risks in Global Trends In Education Policy.
Professor Gillies said:“We are delighted to be hosting this event which will provide those in attendance with a valuable insight into educational policy and reform with a specific focus on development in Scotland and Bangladesh.”
