‘Frew aim for more new faces

Gaffer isn’t finished signing just yet

Renfrew boss Colin Clark revealed he is hopeful of bringing more new signings in.

The ‘Frew have already drafted in former Raith Rovers midfielder Ryan Borris.

But the co- gaffer believes more could be tempted to move as the team returns to the top tier.

Clark said: “The club is always looking to strengthen the squad.

“We’ve just recently signed Ryan Borris from Glenafton Athletic. He’s a midfielder with a lot of experience.

“He’s talented and is a great addition, he’ll be able to influence games and is a leader on the park.

“He’ll add something to our squad and his experience will prove useful, especially when it comes to giving a bit of guidance to some of the younger lads.

“We’d like to bring in more faces before the season kicks-off.”

The New Western Park side finished fourth last season to go back to the West Region Premiership for the first time in more than a decade.

They went up after scoring three more goals than Irvine Meadow, who finished in the same spot.

Striker Scott Morton lifted the Players’ Player of the Year gong after firing the club to promotion.

He found the net 17 times – despite being absent from crunch games.

Clark works alongside co-manager Martin Ferry and was full of praise for his existing squad.

“We were delighted to get the automatic promotion.

“Irvine did run us quite close, but in the end we did enough to go up.

“We must thank the players for the shift they put in. They’ve been tremendous all season.

“Scott Morton, in particular, did very well for us in front of goal.

“He missed a couple of games due to work, so to finish the season as the top scorer is tremendous.”

Renfrew return to the top table for the first time in 11 years.

They have also hosted schoolboy international matches and training for the Costa Rican men’s national side, including Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

‘Frew also reached the semi-final of the Central Sectional League Cup, but lost out after a 2-0 defeat by Pollok.
