Joy at Tri-Series victory

- David Campbell

Ferguslie Cricket Club’s star man Hamza Tahir helped the Scotland team lift the T20 Tri-Series against the hosts Netherlands.

The win capped off a wonderful month for Tahir who also made his One Day International debut against Pakistan earlier this month..

The 22-year-old spin bowler returned with 3/26, claiming the wickets of Tim van der Gueten, Pieter Seelaar and Paul va Meekeren to put the game to bed with Netherlands all out for 106.

It was a recordbreaking performance from the Scotland side at the VRA in Amstelveen as they went on to lift the Tri-Series title in a tournament that also included Ireland.

Earlier in the day, Scotland reached 221 for three in 20 overs with George Munsey’s 71 being the highlight.

Speaking to the Cricket Scotland website, captain Kyle Coetzer said:“We have played some outstanding cricket during the tournament.

“The squad kicked on and learned fast from our first game and by the end of it we were peaking and playing some high quality stuff, it’s just a shame it’s ending there for us for this season.

“I’m really proud that the guys have again made another statement after the England and Pakistan matches – it’s great to set Scotland’s highest ever total in T20 internationals.”

Head coach Grant Bradburn was delighted with the victory which topped off three week of good performances, which included a historic win over England.

He said: “It has been a satisfying and compelling performance from our team and a fitting way to finish an excellent three weeks together.

“As coaches we are very proud of the team not only of the Tri series victory but also in the style of aggressive cricket the team have embraced.

“This Tri Series has been so good to give us all quality cricket.

“We always know battles against Ireland and the Netherlands are hard fought and we hope this series is the beginning of an annual event.”
