TAXI DRIVER ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT

Violent thug targets 60-year-old cabbie for just £34

A taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint for a paltry £34.

A thug pulled a blade on the 60-yearold cabbie in Paisley’s Bankfoot Road and demanded cash.

Detectives are now hunting the brute who made off from the scene shortly before midnight on Thursday following the robbery.

It is understood the driver picked the man up in Johnstone High Street and was asked to head to Ferguslie Park.

However, when they stopped, the thief produced a knife and started threatenin­g the man behind the wheel.

The frightened victim handed over a small amount of cash.

The crook then fled the scene and the shaken victim raised the alarm to the police who are now

investigat­ing.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward as they look to snare the dangerous thief.

A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n said: “We are investigat­ing the robbery of a 60-year-old male taxi driver in Bankfoot Road, Paisley at around 11.45pm on Thursday.

“A male suspect got in the car in the Johnstone area and was driven to Paisley.

“Once stopped, he produced a knife, threatened the driver and demanded cash.

“He was able to make off with a small amount of money.

“Although the victim was unhurt during the incident he is understand­ably shaken by it.

“We are now appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the suspect either getting into the taxi in Johnstone High Street or getting out of it in Bankfoot Road.

“We are very keen to trace this individual and we would urge anyone with any informatio­n to come forward.”
