Car keys warning from cops after thefts

-

Police are warning people to keep their car keys safe following a fresh spate of thefts.

A number of motors have been taken from the Renfrew area in recent days, and officers say opportunist thieves may be using the warm weather to their advantage.

Overnight , between Thursday and Friday last week, a Black Freelander 10 plate and a set of car keys for an Audi were taken from a house in Fairfield Drive.

That same night a White Audi TT 65 plate was stolen from the town’s King George Way.

Meanwhile, two men were disturbed trying to make off in a black Mercedes A180 in Marjory Road, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Cops have warned people to make sure their keys are out of sight and windows are locked and secured when a property is left empty.

Sergeant Barry McNaught, who is based in Johnstone, said: “With the warm weather we are currently enjoying, it is tempting to leave windows open to let air through.

“But I would ask homeowners to be aware of potential opportunities this can present to criminals who may be able to gain access and take car keys.

“If you are leaving your house, please make sure all windows are locked and secured and any keys are kept in a safe place.”

If you have any information on the recent thefts, contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
