‘Stay out of town’ order

-

A man has been banned from visiting Wishaw over claims he assaulted a woman in Paisley.

Mark Cameron, 42, denies punching Julie Winning on the head, leaving her injured, at his home in Blackstoun Oval, Paisley.

And he has now been banned from entering the North Lanarkshire town over the assault claims - as that is where Miss Winning lives.

Cameron was arrested over the claims and held in police custody pending an appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court.

He was led in to the dock yesterday in handcuffs to face a single charge of assaulting Miss Winning.

He denies punching her on Saturday.

P ro s e c u t o r s claim the alleged assault was aggravated because it involved abuse of his partner.

Defence solicitor Eamonn McGeehan said that Cameron was pleading not guilty to the single charge against him.

And he said that Miss Winning was noted on prosecution papers as being “a hostile witness” adding: “She gave a statement to police saying she had not been assaulted by her partner.”

Procurator Fiscal Depute Colin Wilson said Crown Office prosecutors were seeking two special bail conditions - that Cameron be banned from Wishaw, and from approaching or contacting, and attempting to approach or contact, Miss Winning.

After hearing that the couple have an eightmonth- old baby, Sheriff Tom McCartney released Cameron on bail and said: “I am imposing a special bail condition that you do not enter Wishaw.

“I’ve decided that’s the only special condition needed to ensure compliance in this case.”

A trial has been set for August, with a pre- trial hearing earlier that month.
