Man beat partner with belt, court told
A man battered his girlfriend while she was holding a four-month-old baby, it is claimed
Bright Aslim, 22, has been charged with grabbing Paula Palacz by the neck and lashing her with a belt.
Prosecutors insist he whipped her on the legs and ankles as she tried to call 999.
During a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court, he denied attacking the woman and acting in a threatening or abusive manner.
Aslim is accused of assaulting the woman as she cradled the tot at a flat in Seedhill Road on May 1.
He is alleged to have seized her by the throat and thrown her on a sofa before taking the baby and putting him in a cot.
Aslim faces claims he then grabbed a belt from a drawer before striking her with it.
He spent a night in police custody after being arrested.
Londoner Aslim was living in a homeless unit in Abercorn Street at the time the allegations arose.
Sheriff Colin Pettigrew bailed him, but warned him to keep away from Ms Palacz.
He said:“Don’t phone her, don’t write to her, don’t text her, don’t go on the internet, don’t go on social media.”
The court heard a recording of an emergency call will be played during proceedings.
Three police officers are expected to appear in the witness box.
Sheriff Kevin Duffy continued the case until Friday.
