Drunk thief snared at car park

-

A zonked- out thief caught breaking into motors at a Paisley car park has been handed a jail sentence.

Desperate Kerryanne Drummond, 35, was caught prowling and trying door handles at the retail park at Renfrew Road unaware she was being clocked.

Sharp-eyed clients at Pure Gym spotted Drummond climbing into a car and searching it for valuables when she was rumbled early on May 26.

Fiscal depute Hazel Emmerson said: “The accused was involved in three offences. It was around 3.40am when the accused had attempted to enter two vehicles by trying door handles.

“She then tried the driver’s door of another vehicle, entered and then began searching around the car.

“Witnesses who observed the accused came out of the gym.

“Police were contacted and they arrested the accused, but she could not be cautioned and charged due to her level of intoxication.”

Drummond, currently serving a prison sentence for another matter, pleaded guilty to charges of trying door handles of two motors and then entering a third vehicle with the intention of stealing items.

Defence agent Eamon McGeehan said: “The accused hails from Greenock.

“She doesn’t even remember getting to Paisley.

“She has no idea how she got here, which is partly explained by her level of intoxication, but it may be related to her drug problem.”

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said there was only one sentence appropriate for Drummond, given her record of crimes of dishonesty and breaches of bail.

He handed her another 108 days in jail, discounted from 180 days, because of the time she has spent on remand.
