Daredevil graffiti yob targets flats
Fury after spraypaint tag appears four storeys up
Police and council bosses have slammed a daredevil graffiti yob who daubed giant letters on the side of flats more than four storeys up.
A massive tag appeared at the top of a gable end in George Lane, in Paisley, and now police and council officials have hit out over the dangerous stunt.
It is unclear how the vandals managed to spraypaint the wall more than 30ft off the ground, but police have warned their actions could have had devastating consequences.
They are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward and say enquiries are ongoing to establish who is behind the eyesore sign, and have called for any would-be copycat vandals to think twice.
Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley community policing team, said: “Not only has the property been defaced and damaged by this irresponsible vandalism, but there would have been a serious risk of harm to the individuals involved in putting it there, given the height it of the building.
“This was completely reckless behaviour which could have had very serious consequence.
“We would urge people not engage in this clearly very dangerous activity.
“If you have any information in relation to the vandalism in George Lane, and how it got there, then I would ask you to contact our community policing team here in Paisley.”
Many so-called graffiti artists place their own unique tag in hard-to-reach places around towns and cities across the UK as calling cards for their daring work.
Renfrewshire Council, which owns the building, also condemned the louts behind the latest tag and urged anyone concerned about graffiti in their area to contact the police or council.
A spokesman said: “Graffiti is illegal, unsightly and costly to remove.
“This graffiti highlights reckless behaviour and all incidents should be reported to Police Scotland on 101.”
