Thug told cops he’d shoot them in the head

Threat followed drunken binge on vodka and Buckfast

A drunken thug has been jailed after telling police he would “f****** Raoul Moat” them by shooting them in the head.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard David Robb made the threat during a Buckfast and vodkafuelled rampage.

Robb, 29, downed a full bottle of each of the drinks before making the threats to kill the officers in his home town of Paisley.

Robb is originally from Renfrew but was living in Dundonald Road, Gallowhill, when he was arrested.

He lost the plot with the officers last week, less than seven days after being released from prison for battering his mum in her Renfrew home on Valentine’s Day.

He threatened to shoot the officers and made reference to Moat – who killed one, injured another, blinded a police officer and killed himself using a sawnoff shotgun in England in 2010.

The details emerged yesterday when Robb appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court to plead guilty over the events of July 5 this year.

He admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, acting aggressively, hitting his head off the ground, and threatening the officers at a footpath near Renfrew Road, Paisley.

He also admitted a second charge of assaulting PC Matthew Youden by headbutting him.

The court heard that Robb was spotted lying on the ground about 9.30pm and officers approached him.

Procurator Fiscal Depute Meghan Glancey explained: “The accused began shouting and swearing, telling police officers to ‘f*** off’ and calling them ‘p*****’.

“He was eventually restrained by police officers and taken to the ground.

“At this point the accused started to bang his head off the ground and rub his right temple on the pavement and shouted, ‘I’ll get youse done’.

“The accused started to spit at the police vehicle and continued to shout and swear.”

Miss Glancey, prosecuting, said one officer tried to apply a spit hood to stop Robb’s spitting but that he assaulted the officer by headbutting him on the left knee.

He then said: “I’ll f****** Raoul Moat youse – I’ll f****** shoot you in the head.”

The officers lifted Robb up off the pavement and he bawled: “I’ll get youse f****** done for this” while continuing threatening to shoot the police officers.

Defence solicitor Amy Spencer said Robb had only been released from prison on June 29, after being released early from his last sentence.

Ms Spencer said: “He gets drunk, he offends and goes to custody, and that cycle is repeated again, and again, and again, and it has done for a number of years.

“He is serving a life sentence but he is doing it in instalments of six to 12 months.

“Even though he feels such shame he still goes out and drinks and repeats the same behaviour again “He had consumed a bottle of vodka and a bottle of Buckfast.”

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said: “There is only one disposal today – and that is custody.”
