A joint networking event which was held in May with Renfrewshire Council was hailed as a success and helped lay the groundwork for future collaboration and success.
Mr Smith said: “It is an exciting time for tourism in Paisley and Renfrewshire with the 2021 UK City of Culture bid process leaving a lasting legacy of positivity.
“Wi t h significant investment in tourism planned in the coming years and the launch of Paisley. is and customerservice initiative, Paisley Welcomes, there is a fantastic opportunity to reaffirm Renfrewshire’s aim to be key a destination for visitors, investment and residents alike.”
He added that Paisley’s rich textile heritage and historic abbey and its range of cultural events allows Paisley to offer something for everyone.
“Scotland is about building bridges, connecting places and bringing people together,” he said.
“Tourism is at the heart of this and VisitScotland plays a role by championing collaboration, spearheading digital innovation, promoting local areas and events and ensuring that tourism is recognised for the ripple effect of success, well-being and prosperity it brings to all sections of society.
“We will continue at VisitScotland to work closely with the local community and businesses in Renfrewshire to showcase the rich assets, hidden gems and local stories to continue to attract visitors to the region.
“By working together, we can continue to build on the region’s reputation as a quality destination and ensure that current provision meets future demand.”
