That’s the Way to do it

Pals’ fantastic charity boost

- Alison Rennie

Two friends have raised more than £ 5,800 for charity after completing the West Highland Way.

Moira Faulds and Estelle Stevenson completed the mammoth 96-mile walk across some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery earlier this year.

It gave the pals, who are both keen walkers, something positive to focus on after they lost their beloved dads within weeks of each other last year.

Moira’s dad John Robertson passed away in September, aged 74, after suffering from frontal lobe dementia.

Then just a few weeks later, in early October, Estelle’s muchloved dad Billy Stevenson, 81, died from stomach cancer that had spread.

To honour their memories, they walked for charities that supported their dads and their families.

Moira raised a fantastic £3,106 for Alzheimer Scotland while Estelle totalled £2,703 for Accord Hospice, in Paisley.

The pair have been friends for more than 35 years after working together at the former Wishing Well RS McColl shop in Neilston Road.

Moira, 51, is married to Neil, lives in Glenburn and has two grown- up daughters, Gemma and Hayley. Estelle, 53, lives in Paisley with her mum Rea.

Both women work at Morrisons supermarkets – Estelle as a sales assistant in the Lonend store for 15 years and Moira as a customer services manager in Falside Road for 27 years.

And the supermarket giant match- funded the women’s fundraising efforts up to £1,000.

Moira said: “Unfortunately, we didn’t have the great weather the west of Scotland is currently enjoying. We had the four seasons in one day, every day. The scenery was amazing and we hope to do it again one day in better weather.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated and Morrisons for the match funding up to £1000.”

Moira and Estelle took six days to complete the walk.

The West Highland Way stretches 96 miles along some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery from Milngavie up to Fort William.
