Hayden’s one to watch

Stubbs is delighted as‘Boro starlet arrives

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren manager Alan Stubbs has thanked Middlesbrough after landing starlet Hayden Coulson on loan from the Riverside.

The Saints gaffer has moved quickly to snap up the 20- yearold as he looks to boost his squad ahead of the upcoming Premiership campaign.

The defender, who can also play on the left flank, looks set to go straight into the squad for Friday night’s clash with Kilmarnock having already trained with the Buddies first team.

Ahead of what looks to be a busy week on the transfer front, Stubbs revealed he was delighted to have landed his fourth signing since taking the reins.

Stubbs said: “First of all, we are thankful to Middlesbrough for giving us someone they think very highly of.

“He’s been with England all the way up the ranks and even though this is his first loan he is someone who has a lot of potential.

“Fundamentally he is a left-back but he gives us the option of playing him as a wing-back as well.

“We’re delighted we’ve managed to capture the signing as there were a few teams in for him.

“He seems a good, level-headed young lad and I’m sure with the attributes he has he is going to be a really good addition to the squad.”

Meanwhile, Couldson revealed he was delighted to get signed up following a season in and around the ‘Boro first team.

And he insists he is already settling in as he looks to make an impact on the Buddies’ starting XI when the competitive action gets under way.

Coulson added: “I’ve appreciated everyone’s welcomes.

“The academy manager at Middlesbrough said that St Mirren wanted to take me on loan.

“It’s my first loan so I was desperate to grab the opportunity. I’m very excited to get started and hopefully I can prove something.

“In terms of experience it is massive for myself and my confidence. This is mens football at the end of the day so I’ll have to get used to it.

“I’m quick and agile and I like dribbling with the ball a lot. I prefer playing higher up the park, but at left back I feel as though I can still get up and down the park.”
