Please join the Sunday clean-up

-

People are being urged to get on their old clothes and get armed with bags and brushes for a major clean-up event on Sunday.

Charleston Tenants’ & Residents’ Association is holding a ‘Team Up To Clean Up’ session in a bid to clear up rubbish that has gathered at Union Court and the neighbouring maisonettes in Stock Street and Great Hamilton Street.

Dorothy Finlay, chairman of the association, said rubbish has been gathering for some time.

“People have been leaving rubbish out,” she said.

“And then the foxes and the seagulls get at them and the rubbish goes everywhere.”

She added: “We want to clear the litter and get rid of the weeds.

“We are meeting at the office at the foot of Union Court and are looking for people of all ages to come along and help. The council should be providing the equipment we need.”

Mrs Finlay stressed that people are keen to keep the area as tidy as possible, and she would love to see as broad a range of people at the clean up event as possible.

“Even if people are older or disabled, they can come along is they want and just hold a bag.

“It’s really about bringing people together and keeping the place nice.”

Team Up To Clean Up events sees community groups supplied with litter pikers, gloves and bags by Renfrewshire Council.

Graffiti removal kits are also available.

If you are having a community clean up, you can let the council know via its dedicated number on 0300 300 1375, which operates between 11am to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, and from 1pm to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

The council will remove litter after it has been collected, bosses say.

The event at Union Court will start at 2pm.
